2024: A Bluey Year in Review

Hammerbarn x Bunnings
In February, seven Bunnings Warehouses across Australia and New Zealand were transformed into real-life Hammerbarns! All stores offered free Bluey-themed kids’ DIY workshops, limited edition Hammerbarn-branded merchandise and so much more!

For the first time ever, fans had the chance head on down to Hammerbarn as Bunnings Warehouse transform themselves for a storewide Bluey takeover in locations across Australia and New Zealand!

Book reads launched
February also saw the launch of the first series of Bluey Book Reads, featuring famous fans reading some of the most popular Bluey story books. The series kicked off with Mini Bluey – read by Aussie sisters Kylie and Dannii Minogue, and went on to include appearances from Bindi Irwin, Tom Daley, Romesh Ranganathan, Suranne Jones, Jenna Fischer, Eva Mendes, Jordan Fisher, Camille Cottin, Rob Delaney, Adam Hills and Ian Thorpe.

Bluey x jonas brothers
The surprise collaboration you didn’t know you needed! March saw The Jonas Brothers surprise Brisbane concert-goers and Bluey composer Joff Bush with their own special version of the Bluey theme song!
Bluey arrives at Cbeebies land in alton towers
Fans in the UK spent their Easters meeting Bluey, Bingo, Mum and Dad for real life at CBeebies land, and had the chance to stay at brand new Bluey hotel rooms at Alton Towers Family Resort. The Easter fun continued at Kew Gardens with a Bluey themed nature path that let kids and families play Bluey activities and take a closer look at Australian flora.

Ghostbasket
April 2024 became one of the biggest months in Bluey’s history, with 3 weeks of brand-new special episodes that saw the return of the Grannies, a family wedding, the Heeler house go up for sale and a jump into the future!

The first episode, Ghostbasket, saw Janet and Rita return and the reveal that Bandit and Chilli had decided to put the Heeler House up for sale, coming as a major shock to families on the internet and around the world!

The Heeler’s home was even listed on Australian real estate website domain.com.au!
The Sign
All signs were leading to this…. The 28 minute Bluey special ‘The Sign’ premiered on ABC in Australia and Disney+ elsewhere around the world, on the 14th of April 2024.
Viewers were over the moon to see surprise cameos, crazy cross-town capers, plot twists; and arguably the greatest cartoon dog wedding of all time. All the excitement sent fans into a frenzy, both across the internet and for real life, all around the world!
The Sign’s global release was cause for some MAJOR celebrations, and special screenings were held in different locations from Bluey’s home all the way around the world in America, Asia, and Europe.

But the biggest reaction came in the closing moments of the episode. Just when all signs looked to be pointing towards a new home for the Heelers, fate had one more twist up its sleeve…

Surprise!
Just when everyone thought April couldn’t get any bigger, we surprised everyone with a third secret special called ‘Surprise’ that dropped without warning on ABC Kids and Disney+ on the 21st of April.

In Surprise, Bluey and Bingo want Dad to play two different games, so Dad plays both at the same time. The episode ends with an extra special look into the future, where we met a new addition to the Heeler family…
In celebration of Bluey’s surprise episode, London’s iconic ‘Australia House‘ was renamed ‘Bluey House‘ for 24 hours to celebrate the show’s global impact across the UK and the world.

ACCOLADES AND WORLD RECORDS
In May, Bluey celebrated reaching a million Instagram followers, half a billion streams on Spotify and won a Peabody Award for Storytelling all in the same month!

On Sunday, 2 June 2024, hundreds of Bluey-loving Aussies came together in the Heeler’s home state of Queensland, Australia and set a record for the world’s biggest game of Keepy Uppy – for real life!

Minisodes
Following the three Bluey specials, a series of Minisodes were announced that were full of more laughs, more dancing, more friends and more Bluey! The bite-sized adventures aired throughout the year and featured the return of many fan favourite characters.

Octopus & Onesies Single
In August the third Bluey album, Rug Island, was announced. The first two singles included Octopus single featuring King Stingray and Onesies.

Bluey won an award for Best Children’s Program at the TV Week Logies, and became the most watched show of 2024 in the US with over 35 billion minutes watched.

Bluey Dollarbucks!
The all-new range of Collectable Bluey Dollarbuck Coins and a Stamp Pack arrived at Australia Post. Fans had a 1-in-10 chance to discover one special-coloured coin, which will be randomly placed in the Bluey 10-coin Tube and Collectable Folder Set.

A spookily interactive web page launched across Bluey.tv. Fans were able to go Trick-or-Treating at Bluey’s House by clicking on each of the seven doors for either a sweet or a spooky surprise…

Bluey on strictly come dancing
On Friday 15 November, Bluey was joined by Dianne Buswell, Nadiya Bychkova, Neil Jones, Gorka Marquez, Johannes Radebe and Michelle Tsiakkas for a special performance on the Strictly Come Dancing stage as part of BBC Children in Need.

In her third appearance at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, Bluey and her Keepy Uppy Balloon were joined by Grannies Rita and Gladys who rolled into the parade in their very own Grannies’ Car!

Bluey, Bingo and their cousin Muffin visited the peak of the Empire State Building in New York City, and even made their way to MoMA in a bean-filled adventure.

BBC Studios and The Walt Disney Company announced the first-ever animated feature film for Bluey!
The film will premiere in cinemas worldwide in 2027, followed by streaming on Disney+. The movie will also air on ABC iview and ABC Kids in Australia post-theatrical release.
